Cleanroom gowning: the usual order

People are the biggest source of particles in a cleanroom. Gowning in the right order keeps those particles inside the garment.

Your own gowning procedure comes first. This is the order many sites follow, from the top down.

  1. Wash hands and remove jewellery and make-up.
  2. Put on a hair net or hood.
  3. Put on a face mask, and a beard cover if needed.
  4. Put on the coverall without letting it touch the floor.
  5. Put on boots or shoe covers, one at a time, stepping onto the clean side of the bench.
  6. Put on gloves last, over the cuffs of the coverall.
  7. Check in a mirror that no skin or hair shows.
