How to choose ESD tweezers

The right tweezers hold a part without damaging it. The wrong ones bend leads, scratch surfaces or discharge static into a sensitive device.

Choose the tip

TipGood for
Pointed, straightSmall parts and fine work
Pointed, curvedReaching under components with a better view
Flat or bluntLarger parts and flat items such as chips
Round or spoonHolding items without marking

Choose the material

  • Stainless steel is strong and long lasting. It is conductive, so use it with grounding.
  • ESD plastic or fibre is light and static dissipative. It suits delicate work.
  • Non-metallic is used where metal contact could scratch a surface or short a circuit.

Cutting tweezers

These cut leads and wire while holding the part. Use them where a separate cutter would be awkward.

Care

  • Store them with the tips protected.
  • Clean them with a solvent that suits the material.
  • Replace them when the tips no longer meet.
