What they are for
- Handling boards, components and assemblies that are sensitive to static.
- Stopping skin oils and marks on clean or polished parts.
- Protecting a part from a charged glove or hand.
Common types
| Type | What it is | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Carbon fibre knit with PU coating | Knitted glove with conductive fibre and a coated palm | Assembly and inspection with good grip |
| Nylon with ESD fibre | Light seamless knit | Light handling where dexterity matters |
| Nitrile ESD gloves | Disposable nitrile made to be static dissipative | Cleanroom work and chemical contact |
What to check
- Fit and size. Dexterity is why people wear them.
- Resistance value and how it was tested.
- Particle and lint release, if you work in a cleanroom.
- Whether the glove is washable and how many washes it survives.
- Powder-free for controlled areas.
Do I still need a wrist strap?
Normally yes. A wrist strap grounds the person. ESD gloves are worn over the grounded hand. Follow your ESD programme plan.
